#9-Bear Lake in Rocky Mountain National Park

Wednesday, August 26, 2015

Today we decided to go back to Rocky Mountain National Park and do the Bear Lake ride. It was highly recommended by our book guy and wow, was he right. We hiked the loop trail around the lake, ~3/4 of a mile, and it was absolutely beautiful.
The weather continues to be warm during the day and cool at night which is right up my alley. If we go to the higher elevations during the day, which is almost always, I'm a very happy camper!
Such a fun story here. As we were leaving the park later that day, we came upon a few cars pulled to the side of the road. We looked over and saw a whole family of elk in the meadow right before us! The big buck, the doe and two smaller ones. There was also something really dark that was in the field with them. It was a moose! Oh my gosh, we were so excited! The doe was clearly very unhappy with the moose (we think it was a young male) being there and she would approach him, (say something, I think) and he would run away, to slowly sneak back. It was just fascinating to watch, which we did for close to an hour. The big buck could have cared less about anything but eating. Mr. Moose was very close to him at one point and he didn't even look at him. It was all just so beautiful to watch. A real gift.
Happy trails.
